DEFRA Module 1 Water Safety Annex H

The Basic Water Safety Course is run according to the syllabus set down in the DEFRA Module 1 Annex H document on flood rescue operations. It also conforms to the ITRA Level 0 introduction to water rescue syllabus.

It is a one day course, with both theory and practical elements. Confidence in the water and a reasonable swimming ability is required.

The course syllabus consists of: Relevant Legislation and Regulations; Hydrology of rivers; Risks and Hazards of the aquatic environment; Collective protection; Individual protection (PPE) for the aquatic environment; Throwlines; Reach pole systems; Defensive Swimming; Group River Crossing, Wading Methods; Offensive Swimming; Emergency Procedures; Medical considerations for the aquatic environment.
