Course Code (03BWS)
The Basic Water Safety course is run according to the syllabus set down in the DEFRA Module 1 document on flood rescue operations. It also conforms to the ITRA Level 0 introduction to water rescue syllabus. This is the land or ‘dry’ side equivalent for basic water safety.
It is a one day course, confidence in the water and a reasonable swimming ability is required.
The course syllabus consists of: Relevant Legislation and Regulations; Hydrology of rivers; Risks and Hazards of the aquatic environment; Collective protection; Individual protection (PPE) for the aquatic environment; Throwlines; Reach pole systems; Emergency Procedures; Medical considerations for the aquatic environment.
